I know the Premier League started in 1992 and since then only Man U, Chelsea, Blackburn and Arsenal have won the league, but what league was the top league in english football before the Premier league started and what teams have won it?

Before 1992 there were still 4 professional divisions, and rather than their current titles, Prem, Championship, League One and League Two, they were simply Division 1, 2, 3 and 4.
The size of the league changed at various times, and the balance of power shifted. The 1980s was Liverpool’s era, The 1880s was Preston’s era.

liverpool and manchester united both have 18 titles. liverpool however have had all of their titles before the preimier league started. it was in the 80s and 70s that liverpool dominated. manchester dominated the 60s and now the 2000s.
